The Pastafarians: the supporters of the somewhat absurd belief in the flying spaghetti monster. It has grown to be a real phenomenon. Supporters of the Pastafarianism have repeatedly made the news for their wish to be photographed for their passports or identity cards with a colander on their head. The argument they use is that they – as do Jews and Muslims – wish to cover their heads from a religious perspective. In one particular, recent case the court of East-Brabant has put a stop to this and ruled, in accordance with the criterion of the ECHR, that the Pastafarianism in no way demonstrates sufficient seriousness to be regarded as a religion or belief. Moreover, the man in question could not sufficiently answer the court’s questions and could not show a serious perception of a religion or belief.
