Experienced in Dutch immigration and residence permit law

Law & More handles Dutch immigration matters for internationals and employers in Amsterdam: residence permits, work, family, Dutch nationality and objections against IND decisions. We receive clients by appointment at our visiting location at Pietersbergweg 291; our office is in Eindhoven and we act throughout the Netherlands, in Dutch and English. The first step is a free introductory meeting, by video call, by telephone or in person.

Clients rate Law & More 9.6 out of 10 on Klantenvertellen, the Dutch review platform (81 reviews, as of October 2026).

Do you have an office in Amsterdam?

We have a visiting location at Pietersbergweg 291, 1105 BM Amsterdam, where we receive clients by appointment. It is not a second office: our office is at Marconilaan 13 in Eindhoven.

For immigration matters this makes little practical difference, because IND procedures run in writing and online. Consultation goes by e-mail, telephone or video call, and a meeting in person is possible but rarely necessary. You can arrange an appointment by telephone or e-mail.

Which questions do internationals in Amsterdam bring to us?

Most questions concern a change of employer, the position of a partner, the next residence purpose after a study, and when a permanent permit or Dutch nationality comes within reach. We assess that against your residence history and prepare the application accordingly.

Amsterdam draws people from outside the EU into international head offices, research institutions, start-ups and self-employment. A highly skilled migrant permit is tied to the sponsor, so a new employer must be a recognised sponsor and must notify the IND. Whether a partner may work here without restriction depends on the permit granted.

A recurring point is the gap. A permit that lapses before the next application is filed interrupts the count of lawful residence. That shows up years later, when the five-year threshold for permanent residence or naturalisation is tested, so it is worth planning the sequence early.

What should employers in Amsterdam arrange?

An employer that wants to use the highly skilled migrant scheme must be recognised by the IND as a sponsor and must meet the reporting and record-keeping duties that come with it. The EU Blue Card does not require recognition, which can make it the practical route for an employer that is not recognised.

The salary thresholds differ by route and by age group and are adjusted periodically; current amounts are published on ind.nl. We prepare the application for recognition, check contracts and salaries before an application is filed, and represent employers during an IND audit or against a fine or withdrawal of the recognition.

Which deadlines apply?

The IND decides on a residence application within 90 days, extendable by up to six months where advice or investigation is needed (Article 25 Aliens Act 2000). An objection or appeal must be lodged within four weeks (Article 69).

The four weeks start the day after the decision is notified, so send us the decision itself as soon as you receive it. If the IND does not decide in time, you can give written notice of default and then appeal for failure to decide in time.

How does working with Law & More work?

  1. Introductory meeting: we discuss your situation by video call, telephone or in Amsterdam by appointment, free of charge.
  2. Advice and cost estimate: we set out the route, the conditions and the position of family members, and estimate the costs.
  3. Application and contact with the IND: we prepare and file the application and answer questions from the IND.
  4. Decision, objection or appeal: we review the decision and, after a refusal or withdrawal, file an objection or appeal.

What does an immigration lawyer in Amsterdam cost?

The introductory meeting is free of charge. After that we work on an hourly basis, and we agree the rate and the expected effort with you in advance.

  • Lawyer: 250 to 350 euros per hour, excluding VAT.
  • Partner: 300 to 400 euros per hour, excluding VAT.
  • One-off advice meeting without further assistance: 300 euros including VAT.

Law & More does not work on legal aid (toevoeging). Legal aid exists through the Legal Aid Board (Raad voor Rechtsbijstand), but we do not work on that basis. IND fees are charged separately and are published on ind.nl.

Frequently asked questions

Can my matter be handled remotely?

Yes. IND procedures run in writing and online, and consultation goes by e-mail, telephone or video call. A meeting in person is possible but rarely necessary. We act for clients throughout the Netherlands.

In which languages can we work?

Our lawyers work in Dutch and English. Colleagues at the office also speak German, Spanish, Italian, Polish, Russian, Arabic and Turkish, which helps with first contact and with explaining a procedure.

Can my partner work in the Netherlands?

That depends on the permit granted to your partner. Partners of highly skilled migrants often want to know whether they may work without restriction, and it is worth settling this before the move. We look at the family in the same matter as your own permit.

Do you handle asylum cases?

No. Law & More does not handle asylum cases. For an asylum procedure, contact the Juridisch Loket or VluchtelingenWerk Nederland; during the asylum procedure you are entitled to a lawyer through the Legal Aid Board.
