There will be very few Dutch people that are not yet aware of the dragging issues concerning the Groningen earthquakes, caused by gas drilling. The court has ruled that the ‘Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij’ (Dutch Petroleum Company) should pay compensation for nonmaterial damage to a part of the inhabitants of the Groningenveld. Also the State has been held accountable on the ground of inadequate supervision, but the court ruled that, despite the fact that the supervision was indeed inadequate, it could not be said that the damage resulted therefrom.
